If it happens at the INN, it's here just a little bit later.
We also might throw other fun stuff in here too.

Serve & Not Be Served

// Last night at the INN, Jenn talked about a story in the book of Matthew, Chapter 20, that has the mother of two of the disciples coming to Jesus, asking for positions of power for her sons. This upsets the other disciples who also wanted positions of power and Jesus responds to them all by saying,

“You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

He came not to be served, but to serve. Those who want to be first in the Kingdom of God must make themselves last. This is a call to action, and, when we realize that we have the privilege to serve and that God wants to use us even though he doesn’t have to, we are free to answer that call and serve.

How often do you find yourself wishing to be first in your life?
What will it take to start viewing the world through the lens of “God first, others second, and yourself third”?

If you find yourself looking for a way to start serving, we want to encourage you to look into Servant Leadership at the INN for the 2012-2013 school year. It’s an opportunity to give of yourself and live into God’s work at the INN, helping out with all aspects of Tuesday Nights, leading Small Groups, and connecting to WWU through events and collaboration. We’re hosting a required info session for Servant Leadership applicants after the INN next Tuesday (3/6).
